Describe the project, what makes it unusual, and/or any outstanding characteristics.
This project’s uniqueness is best identified in the before and after transformation of what was a rarely used bonus room and awkward closet to a favorite gathering space for the wine enthusiasts that live there.
Initially the owner intended to store wine in the closet along a single wall with pre-fabricated wine racks we are accustomed to seeing everywhere. With some research and clever design, we were able to give the narrow space more of a wine cellar feel, including a wet bar and horizonal wine bottle storage. This horizontal wine bottle storage is not only good for the wine, but also allows the owner to see the wine labels without having to remove the bottles.
Adding a fireplace to the bonus room completed the lounge area providing a place for family and friends to gather while they enjoy their wine. The existing colonial home, located in Northern VA, was adorned with onyx millwork throughout. In keeping with the existing style and finish of the house, we finished the fireplace and wet bar cabinetry to match. The solid Walnut mantel was in keeping with the colonial traditions and sourced from a local farm. In order to warm up the dark cabinetry, we chose to finish the interiors in a matching walnut finish and pulled this finish throughout the project including the wine racks as well as the most unique and entirely custom grape vine mullion we fabricated and installed into what is now the door to the wine cellar.
Cabinetry 100% fabricated by us. Our Face Frame Cabinetry was fabricated with 3/4” solid Maple face frames, doors and drawer fronts. 5/8” Solid Maple dove tailed drawer boxes, 3/4” Maple Plywood case construction.
