Describe your project, what makes it unusual, and/or any outstanding characteristics.
In designing this modern “moody” Kitchen, we wanted to use a luxurious grain matched veneer to bring some “warmth” but maintain clean simple lines. We sourced Quartered Figured Eucalyptus veneer that was all from the same flitch so we could grain match all the flat cabinet faces. The warmth of the veneer is offset by the stark blackened oak, that used a “skinny shaker” door style to give additional detail. Appliances were selected to use matching wood panels to keep with the simplicity of the design. The homeowners didn’t want a traditional “hood” so the upper cabinets above the gas range were constructed to hide a hood liner, with Blum Aventos HF lift-up door hardware flanking the hood area. They also wanted a large “appliance garage” area, with additional pantry and food storage above. But it was important to hide those items when not in use. To accomplish that we designed a large area that implemented the Hawa bi-folding pocket door hardware system.
