2023 Wood Diamond Award Residential Other Colorado Cabinet Makers Second Place

Colorado Cabinet Makers is a small custom cabinet shop located in Loveland, Colorado.  James & Tracey, the owners, handle the business and design while 10 talented and dedicated woodworkers make sawdust in the shop.  We do most of our own installs to keep quality control of the projects. Very little is outsourced while creating a wide variety of quality residential cabinetry and millwork. James has been a member of the Cabinet Makers Association for many years.

Describe your project, what makes it unusual, and/or any outstanding characteristics.
This custom gun room project was built for “Mr. Smith” at an undisclosed location in Colorado. He wanted a functional space where he could display his collection and do his gunsmithing. Safety and security first led him to incorporate a fully sealed concrete room with a Fork Knox vault door. The Rustic Knotty Alder cabinetry was stained and glazed to give it a rich finish. The T&G backing in the display areas was wire brushed with a lighter finish to accent the rifle storage sections. The room has a capacity for 110 long guns. Recessed LED lighting was included in all display areas, as well as underneath the floating shelf under the work bench. 18 sloped pullout trays, also with with individual LED lighting, display over 150 pistols. A steel support column for the concrete ceiling located in the center of the room was integrated into the work island and covered with a raised panel decorative surround that made it look like it was planned all along. The base cabinets are filled with adjustable rollout storage drawers for organizing ammunition and accessories. A gray woven vinyl matting, made in Spain, was inlayed into the work bench top and the work island top to be durable and give it a high-tech look. Blum Tandem undermount guides are on 76 drawers and rollouts in the room. We are a cabinet shop that makes a choice to remain neutral in the craziness of the political landscape of our country. We like to sell cabinets to all Red…Blue and Pink customers alike!! In this case, we were happy our customer, a firm believer in the second amendment, was a believer in our skilled cabinet makers and our shop, for his one-of-a-kind gun display room!
