2024 Wood Diamond Award Kitchen: Frameless Over $50K Colorado Cabinet Makers Second Place

2024 Wood Diamond Awards,

Colorado Cabinet Makers is a small custom cabinet shop located in Loveland, Colorado.  James & Tracey, the owners, handle the business and design while 10 talented and dedicated woodworkers make sawdust in the shop. They do most of our own installations to keep quality control of the projects. Very little is outsourced while creating a wide variety of quality residential cabinetry and millwork. James has been a member of the Cabinet Makers Association for many years.

Describe your project, what makes it unusual, and/or any outstanding characteristics.

Our clients were building a new ultra-modern home in Windsor, Colorado and asked for a spectacular modern kitchen as the focal point of their home. Their black and white painted kitchen got our award for the longest run of cabinets of the year at over 27’! The quartz fabricator was extremely happy that our installer knew how to use a laser level for that run of cabinets. The end of the kitchen featured a moving glass wall exiting to an outdoor living space that utilized part of the quartz countertops as a pass-through serving counter and bar to the outside. This feature looked clean and sleek when finished, but coordinating and integration of these glass panels with the window supplier and the framing crew was a challenge. The sink wall of this kitchen featured five fixed-pane windows that had the quartz countertop flowing back to the glazing as a window sil. Again, fairly challenging to coordinate. The upper cabinets included Blum aventos lifts, Blum HK lifts and aventos HF bi-folding lifts with servo drives for that ultra-modern “touch it and watch it go up and down by itself” wow factor. The island alone was 5’ by 17’ in length. Functional hardware by Blum, including tandems and clip-top soft close hinges. 5 ½” solid island legs by Hardware Resources. The corner Lazy Susan included kidney shaped, independently rotating 32” susans with auto-on LED interior lighting. Decorative hardware by Berenson. Painted finishes by ML Campbell. The material for construction of the cabinets was North American soft maple. A great wood selection for a painted finish. Paxton Hardwoods created custom 4” shaker crown moulding to top off the upper cabinets. Hafele LOOX low voltage LED lighting was used for the interior and under cabinets.
