2024 Wood Diamond Award Kitchen: Frameless Over $50K Colorado Cabinet Makers First Place

Colorado Cabinet Makers is a small custom cabinet shop located in Loveland, Colorado.  James & Tracey, the owners, handle the business and design while 10 talented and dedicated woodworkers make sawdust in the shop. They do most of our own installations to keep quality control of the projects. Very little is outsourced while creating a wide variety of quality residential cabinetry and millwork. James has been a member of the Cabinet Makers Association for many years.

Describe your project, what makes it unusual, and/or any outstanding characteristics.

Our clients were having their dream home built by a local contractor on a lot east of Loveland with beautiful views facing the front range of the Rocky Mountains. This home is new construction, we were able to work with the clients planning the features and feel of the kitchen as the project came out of the ground. Our client is a long time cardiologist in the area and wanted to create a “heart-stopping” kitchen as the gathering place for their friends and family! The client selected a clear FAS white oak for the perimeter cabinetry and painted soft maple for the island and beverage center. The layout included a full double layer of cabinetry up to 10’ with numerous Blum aventos door lifts. The mix of aventos lifts included HK, HF, and HL systems. The full-sized subzero refrigerator included paneled fronts. The customer had very specific and detailed out every usable space in her kitchen down to the custom paper towel holder incorporated next to her farm sink in the island. A stunning metal hood was sourced from Raw Urth Designs in Fort Collins. The bisque colored stain on the white oak complimented the blue—gray paint choice very nicely. Other functional hardware included Blum tandems and clip-top hinges. The 2 ½” thick mitered-folded quartz countertop on the island was supported by integrate flat bar steel routered into double thick topped base cabinets on the back of the island. Four double-door cabinets under the overhang have Blum tip-on push latches relieving kneecaps from banging into decorative hardware! Hafele LOOX low voltage LED lighting was incorporated into the corner floating shelves and the recessed under cabinet lighting. Decorative hardware was provided by Berenson.
